Insurance & Protection

Every rental on Digital Closet is backed by our comprehensive protection program, giving both renters and lenders complete peace of mind.

How protection works

A 5% protection fee is added to every booking and paid by the renter at checkout. Digital Closet collects this fee and uses it to fund repairs, dry cleaning, and replacement when something goes wrong.

From the moment an item leaves the lender's hands to the moment it's safely returned, it's covered. The lender pays nothing — they receive their full payout regardless of what happens to the item, provided the renter follows the terms.

Renter pays

  • · Rental fee (per day)
  • · Delivery €15
  • · Protection 5%

Lender receives

  • · 80% of rental fee
  • · Full coverage if damaged
  • · Zero out-of-pocket risk

What's Covered

  • Accidental damage: Rips, snags, or breakage that occurs during normal wear are fully covered.
  • Stains: Minor stains from food, drink, or makeup that happen during your rental period.
  • Minor tears: Small tears to fabric, loose threads, or minor seam issues.
  • Shipping damage: Any damage that occurs during transit is covered by our shipping insurance.
  • Professional cleaning: If the item requires specialist dry cleaning beyond normal care, we cover the cost.

What's Not Covered

  • Theft or loss: Items that are not returned or are reported stolen are not covered by insurance. The renter will be charged the full replacement value.
  • Intentional damage: Deliberate damage or misuse of rented items is excluded from coverage.
  • Unauthorised alterations:Any modifications, tailoring, or alterations made to the item without the lender's consent.
  • Extreme negligence: Damage resulting from clearly negligent behaviour, such as exposure to harsh chemicals or improper storage.

The Dispute Process

If a lender reports damage after a rental return, the following process applies:

  1. The lender reports the issue through their dashboard within 48 hours of receiving the item back, including photos.
  2. Our team reviews the claim and compares it against the item's pre-rental condition photos.
  3. Both parties are notified and given the opportunity to provide additional information.
  4. A resolution is reached within 5 business days. If the damage is covered, the lender receives compensation. If not, the renter may be charged for repair or replacement costs.

Lender Protection Guarantees

As a lender on Digital Closet, your items are safeguarded by our multi-layered protection system:

  • Verified renters: All renters must verify their identity before booking, reducing the risk of fraud.
  • Security deposits:A hold is placed on the renter's payment method for the duration of the rental period.
  • Condition documentation:We encourage lenders to photograph items before shipping, creating a clear record of the item's condition.
  • Fair compensation:If an item is damaged beyond repair, lenders are compensated based on the item's current market value.
  • Dedicated support: Our protection team is available to assist with any claims or concerns throughout the process.
